Containerised Water Treatment Pilot for Oilfield Applications

Clean TeQ Water has received a purchase order from NESR to supply a containerised pilot plant based on its HIROX water treatment technology, supporting evaluation of advanced wastewater treatment and reuse in oilfield operations.

Pilot scope and deployment context
The order covers a fully automated, containerised pilot plant designed for field testing of the HIROX process. The unit will be delivered as a 12.2-metre container with pilot-scale treatment capacity, enabling deployment directly within operational environments. Delivery is scheduled for mid-2026.

This installation represents the first containerised HIROX pilot deployed within NESR’s NEDA segment operations in the Middle East. It is structured as a paid deployment, indicating a transition from laboratory or bench-scale testing toward operational field evaluation.

Evaluating treatment of complex industrial waters
The pilot forms part of NESR’s broader program to assess advanced treatment technologies for complex industrial wastewaters. Target streams include waters with high salinity and significant scaling potential, which are common in upstream oil and gas operations and pose challenges for conventional treatment processes.

During the pilot, performance metrics such as water recovery rates and reagent consumption will be measured. These data will be used to inform design parameters for potential full-scale installations and to assess the economic and operational viability of the technology under regional conditions.

Extending HIROX applications beyond mining
HIROX technology has previously been applied in mining-related water treatment. This pilot is intended to evaluate its applicability in upstream oil and gas operations in the Middle East and North Africa region, where water reuse and management are increasingly important due to water scarcity and regulatory pressure.

By demonstrating performance in oilfield wastewater scenarios, the pilot seeks to broaden the technology’s application envelope and support circular water reuse strategies within energy operations.

Partnership continuity and regional relevance
The deployment builds on an existing collaboration between Clean TeQ Water and NESR, established through an exclusive distribution agreement signed in November 2021 and a prior HIROX project delivered in 2023. NESR’s investment in the containerised pilot reflects progression from earlier collaboration phases toward scalable evaluation.

As a regional provider of integrated energy and oilfield services, NESR is positioned to test and, if validated, deploy the technology across multiple customer operations in the Middle East and North Africa.

Path toward commercial rollout
Results from the pilot are expected to support decisions on broader commercial deployment of HIROX technology across NESR’s customer base. Containerised pilot systems are commonly used to bridge the gap between development and commercialization, allowing technologies to be tested under real operating conditions before committing to permanent infrastructure.

Within the context of industrial water management, the project illustrates how modular, field-deployable treatment systems are being used to evaluate advanced processes for reuse and sustainability in energy-intensive industries.
