Honeywell to Modernize Water Infrastructure with Advanced Automation Technologies

Honeywell has been selected by Fitzroy River Water, part of Rockhampton Regional Council, to modernize and automate key water and wastewater treatment facilities under the Council’s long-term infrastructure improvement program.

Rockhampton, located in Central Queensland, depends on Fitzroy River Water to deliver essential water and sewerage services to households, businesses, and industries across the region. To meet rising demand, the utility is increasing its treatment capacity from 50,000 to 75,000 equivalent persons (EP), a benchmark for population served. Honeywell’s technologies will enhance operational reliability, reinforce cybersecurity and extend asset life at both the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant and North Rockhampton Sewage Treatment Plant.

As part of this upgrade, Honeywell will deploy its Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) SCADA R530. This advanced platform will streamline remote operations, enabling operators at Glenmore to securely monitor and control the North Rockhampton facility from a single, integrated interface. The unified system helps improve decision-making speed, reduce unplanned downtime, and enhance service quality for end users.

The deployment builds on a 30-year collaboration between Honeywell and Fitzroy River Water focused on implementing advanced control and automation solutions that support safe, reliable water services for the region.

Honeywell’s Experion PKS SCADA technology is used globally across industrial sectors to improve operational visibility, minimize downtime, and strengthen protection against evolving cybersecurity threats. With scalable architecture and advanced data integration, the platform enables operators to progress digitalization strategies while delivering on safety, reliability, and energy-efficiency objectives.

These latest projects mark a significant step forward in Honeywell’s support for the modernization of Australia’s water sector and demonstrate the company’s broader commitment to advancing industrial digitalization across energy, resources and manufacturing. By integrating automation, data, and cybersecurity expertise, Honeywell continues to help organizations build safer, smarter and more sustainable operations ready for the future.
